What is the most ideal and yet feasible rotation for the YANKEES?
Mine would be: Santana, Wang, Petitte, Mussina, Kennedye. Noticeably missing is Hughes because they would have to trade him for Santana. But the Yankees desperately need an ace. You saw what Wang did in the playoffs (not his fault) YANKEES NEED AN ACE
My ideal rotation would have Joba as the set-up man to Mariano. Many a game is lost or won in thet last two innings. We gotta learn how to slam the door tight

Pavano, Clemens, Randy Johnson, Joba Chamberlain, and a bunch of bugs.
Well, it's ideal for me because I don't like the yankees much
with santana – santana wang pettitte kennedy & joba – without santana you would insert hughes. i think joba is going to start this year if the yankees dont get another arm
I don't believe they will get Santana…but neither will the Red Sox, so it would be
1.) Wang
2.) Hughes
3.) Petitte (Former steroid abuser)
4.) Mussina
5.) Kennedy
Barring a Santana trade…
Wang
Pettitte
Joba
Mussina
Kennedy
Joba will be the ace. Soon.
My ideal rotation is this:
1) Wang
2) Pettitte
3) Mussina
4) Kennedy
5) Hughes
6) Chamberlain
It'd never happen though because a six man rotation is unheard of but it makes a lot of sense. The extra break between starts will give Moose the extra time he needs to rest between starts (he was decent with longer rest at the end of last year) and the reduced starts will help the youngins stay under inning caps longer which could allow them to pitch more in the postseason should the Yanks make it.
Note: I put Kennedy before Hughes and Chamberlain because he should get more turns as his cap will be higher. Not because I think he's going to be a better pitcher.
I'm guessing the Yankees rotation will look like this going into the season.
1.) Wang- Great last two years, becoming an Ace.
2.) Petitte- Solid #2, will eat innings barring injury
3.) Chamberlin- great stuff, we'll see how he is as a starter.
4.)Hughes- Will have a strong year barring no injuries.
5.) Kennedy- 4th starter stuff at best, control is key.
6.) (Alternate) Mussina- on the down slope, but can still be brilliant.
Mussina will take some of the load off of Joba, Hughes, and Kennedy while Pettite and Wang will pitch every five days.
They could start Drysdale, Carlton, Clemons, Gossage and Ryan and still choke in the playoffs.
If you were to sign Johan Santana then you would have to give up Kennedy or Hughes one of them or maybe both. But the ideal Rotation would be:
1 Johan Santana
2 Chien Ming Wang
3 Andy Pettite
4 Joba Chamberlain
5 Mike Mussina and/or Kei Igawa (Yankees MUST use him because they paid so much to get him they have to use him or else its just a waste of MONEY)
I don't agree with your assertion that the Yankees "…desperately need an ace." That rotation is strong right now and I would be happy going into the season without any more trades. Santana in Boston would be pretty scary, but if they want to give away the store to get him, maybe we should let them. I would absolutely HATE to lose Melky and I am convinced that Phil Hughes can be a dominant pitcher — maybe as soon as this season. Let's give the homegrown talent a chance, shall we? That's Brian Cashman's stated philosophy, and I hope Hank will allow him to stick to it. Anyway, to answer your question:
Wang (He'll never have another post-season as bad as 2007)
Pettitte (No one is better when you need a Game 2 win)
Joba (2008 Rookie of the Year — yes, he's still eligible)
Hughes (Future All-Star)
Moose (He deserves the chance to keep his starting spot, but tell Kennedy and Igawa to be ready for their shot. The 5-hole could be an ongoing experiment, but I think one of them will step up nicely.)
The Reality Check is
Wang
Pettitte
Mussina
Hughes
Chamberlain
Here's how it should look:
1. Chien-Ming Wang
2. Philip Hughes
3. Ian Kennedy
4. Andy Pettite
5. Humberto Sanchez (I live in Detroit, and i saw Sanchez develop in the tigers minor league system. The Yankees didn't trade Gary Sheffield to the Tigers for nothing, they traded him to get Sanchez. Mussina is done. Sanchez should be the starter)
Joba Chamberlain should be the setup man.
