A horse camp is a place where campers or people who want to learn how to ride a horse are taught how to ride and handle a horse. For experienced horse riders, it is where they develop horse riding skills. In a horse camp, riders are taught horse care, how to keep a horse and how to be safe around a horse. Not only does a horse camp help horse riders improve their riding skills, it also teaches them what is involved in owning a horse.

Horse camps offer classes for both the beginner and intermediate to advanced riders. Make sure that your child is in the right class so he or she doesnt get intimidated or scared.

2. Find a good camp that is near to your place because you do not want to spend hours just for travelling. You can ask the people you know, equestrian tack shops, horse feed stores or the local veterinarian. Internet is also an excellent source of information on horse camps.

3. It is better if you can visit the horse camp first. Know if the facility is well run, clean, well organized and safe. If possible, go to the bathroom and see if it is clean and organized. The condition of the camp will reflect the characteristics of the instructor.

4. See to it that the horses used in the lessons are well trained and well behaved. It will be very difficult and unsafe for children and beginners to work with aggressive horse. Know if the equipments are also good.

5. You should also ask about the rotation of adults to children at the camp each day. Know if the camp offers a counselor.

6. Usually, aside from horse riding lessons, horse camps include other activities in their program. Some include educational activities, while others add entertaining activities to keep their campers enthusiastic. You should ask about these activities.

7. Another very important thing to know is the camps medical facilities and access. Know their capabilities in case of emergencies and ask if the camp has first aid kits ready. Ask how near the closest medical center or hospital is. Other things you should ask are the hours of operation, other fees, if lunch is included in the fee, etc.

8. Horse camps should be concerned about their campers safety so they should require proper clothing. If they dont, then it is not the right camp for your child.
