How do they determine who will play who in the first round of the MLB playoffs?

The Cubs have the best record and get the Dodgers with the worst record of the teams getting into the playoffs. However the Angels have the best record in the AL and get the Red Sox who have a better record than the eventual AL central winner. Is it based on winning your division, or wild card, or record? Or is it just whoever MLB chooses?

The team with the best record plays the wild card, unless the wild card team is in the team with the best records division. So the cubs cant play the brewers in the nlds, thats why the cubs are playing the dodgers, because the dodgers have a worst record then the phillies. The angles play the redsox because the angles have the best record in the AL and the redsox won the wild card and are not in the same division as the angles.

Is based on the points, and wins (winning in away or home)

The team with the best record in the league automatically plays the wild card winner. Then the team with the next best division record gets home field advantage against the team with the worse division-winning record. One catch is that the division winner cannot play the wild card winner if they’re in the same division, too.

the worst team plays the best team.
    except for the wild card
in the Ds you can not play someone from your own division
for example if tampa was best and boston was worse out of the four teams, tampa would play #3 Boston #2

The team in the league that has the best record will play the wild card team, unless the wild card team is from the same division. If the wild card team is from the same division, then the team with the best record plays the division winner with the worst record.

Then the remaining teams play each other.

    Really, quite simple.

    And, GO CUBBIES!!!!!!

The team with the best record(angels and Cubs) play the wild card winner(BO SoX)–unless the wild card winner comes from the same division(Brewers). If it is the second case then the team with the best record(cubs) play the team with the least wins of the divisions(dodgers).

    Hope this helps.

The best team plays the wild card team……angels vs red sox, but if the wild card team comes out of the same division as the team with best record, as cubs and brewers, since they are in same division, they cant play each other. When that happens, the wild card team….the brewers…plays the next best team with winning record…the phillies

The team with the best record plays the team with the worst record, except in the first round of the playoffs, no two teams from the same division will face each other. So the Angels could only play the Twins or White Sox if the wild card team was not in the same division as the Devil Rays. Likewise in the NL, the Cubs and Brewers cannot face each other in the first round regardless of their records, although in this case it did not matter because the Brewers had a better record than the Dodgers.
