Hollywood Cinema and Independent Films

Blockbuster movies are very popular and successful in terms of production. It even works for films which are made on very low budget, but eventually succeed and exceed the expectation of the film of the particular genre.

These Hollywood blockbusters typically have a high concept theme. The thumb rule for a blockbuster is, it should have high stakes or severe consequences. It is the consequence, which has a lot of involvement of the protagonist.

The high action plot very often has two storylines running together. The main plot will be the action story, the one where everything counts on the here competing in their predicament and trying to win against all odds. With this there is often a character based plot, where our here will grow and develop, and in the end there will be some resolve in their personal story.

The Hollywood blockbuster movie began its journey from the beginnings of the Hollywood film industry. Many directors and producers confess that there is no hard and fact rules for making these successful movies. The results and public reception from these movies is completely unpredictable.

Independent filmmaking very often takes place outside of the Hollywood system, or other major studio systems. An independent film is initially produced without financing or distribution from a major movie studio. Creative, business, and technological reasons have all contributed to the growth of the indie film scene.

The costs of big-budget studio films also leads to conservative choices in cast and crew. Hollywood studios opt towards co-financing with other film production companies. Movie directors almost never get the opportunity to work a big-budget studio films unless he or she has significant industry experience. Also, the studios rarely produce films with unknown actors, particularly in lead roles.

The high cost of film stock on which movies have always been made, has always been a major hurdle in production. All this is changing now with digital alternatives and providing easier access to the process.

With the advent of consumer camcorders in, and more importantly, the arrival of high-resolution digital video, have lowered the technology barrier to movie production significantly. Both production and post-production costs have been significantly lowered. Today, the hardware and software for post-production can be installed in a commodity-based personal computer.

Digital filmmakers can now shoot and edit a complete movie, along with mixing the final score on a home computer system. This has only become possible because of the rise of DV technology. Distribution has continued to be a difficult area in which to enter for the low budget filmmaker. The most common way to be noticed in this field is through the film festival circuit.

Open content films are very much like independent films. They are produced through a collaborative process, and the source material is available through a licence which allows other parties to create derivative works. These films are produced outside of the studio system, much like independent films.
