Digital Audio Cable Types

Thanks to modern technology, audio cables are more sophisticated and work better than ever before. Knowing the difference between the most common types of audio cables is essential to making sure you buy the kind that will best suit your needs. You absolutely do not need to be an electrician or some kind of engineer to understand the basics of audio cables. Below, we highlight the most common types of digital audio cables and some of their key features.

Coaxial Digital Audio Cables

Coaxial digital audio cables are by far the most commonly used and popular today. They look very similar to the analog audio cables that have been used for many years. In fact, the primary difference between these cables and analog audio cables is that these carry digital signals. They work in much the same way as their analog counterparts, and just about anybody can use coaxial digital audio cables with ease.

Coaxial digital audio cables are made out of copper, which is then wrapped up in aluminum which reduces interference. That is then encased in an outer layer which protects it from harm. Digital signals are sent within the coaxial using electrical pulses. If you want to experience excellent sound quality, and don’t want to spend a lot, these are the cables for you. They are much more affordable than many other options.

Optical Digital Audio Cables

Optical digital audio cables use newer technology to provide a clear audio. Unlike the coaxial digital audio cables, these cables use pulses of light to obtain a clearer quality sound.

With a Coaxial cable you will often receive sound quality problems. This is not the same with optical digital audio cables. Because these cables use light, instead of cooper, their is no risk of interference and the sound quality is the perfect audio experience.

The price of these cables is where many have issues, as they are 50% more expensive than coaxial digital audio cables. The price may be a deal breaker for those on a tight budget. However, if sound quality is extremely important to you, optical digital audio cables are the perfect choice.

The kind of audio cables you use depends on a lot of things. Do a little research and look around to find the best deals. You should be able to come up with a set up that works great for you and your audio needs.

The Evolution of Portable Music Devices Over the Decades

For years now, the Apple Ipod has ruled the mp3 universe. There are of course plenty of other brands of mp3s on the market, but none have seen the popularity and acceptance as the Ipod has. People were reluctant at first, to switch to this digital format. People had gotten very content and used to the compact disc format and through the nineties it ruled and made the cassette obsolete.

In the eighties, the cassette tape was top of the line, and even on into the early nineties. But the tape was not nearly as clear sounding or convenient as the compact disc. When mp3 started to catch on in the late nineties, people thought it was a fad, that it seemed unbelievable that people would surrender hard copies of music that looked so cool lined up along shelves for everyone to look at.

When people first started to use mp3 players, they used it more as a portable radio with extra storage device capabilities. CD usage was still popular in the home and cars. Just recently has it become more readily found in cars and in the home.

Right now it is hard to find people who even buy music any other way than downloading it onto their computer, digitally. It is so much easier to store and manage it from your computer. There is an entire business and culture stemming from the creation of the mp3 player. From accessories like covers and earphones to wires that can connect your mp3 player to your car stereo, you can find anything your heart desires. And there are websites whose entire reason for existing is to provide content and apps to download to your mp3 and Ipod.

There is an entire world of things to download. You can download music, of course, but there are also movies, tv shows, pod-casts, music videos and video games. Every one you see has one of these devices. No matter what their age. Medical professional are starting to worry about rampant hearing loss among people listening so often and loudly through their headphones.
